What is a Business Valuation?

A business valuation is performed in order to quantify the value or what one would pay for an investment in a business or business interest for a specific purpose. It's all about the rate of return and the payoff (total return):

     Investment Performance = return of capital + dividends + capital appreciation

We look at a business valuation from the point of view of an investor. What type of economic benefit will I derive? Show me the $$$$!
